Style Icon: Blair Waldorf

The only thing Blair Waldorf did better than revenge was fashion.

As the fictional star of the Gossip Girl series schemed her way to the top of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side, she also dominated the fashion world with an iconic and instantly recognisable preppy style.

We owe two of the most important lessons of fashion to Queen B. Firstly, that the headband is not just for school but should be embraced by all as a statement accessory to complete any outfit. Chunky headbands in bright floral or geometric patterns are the must-have accessory for this Autumn/Winter with Gucci among many other major brands bringing them back into style. For a slightly more affordable selection be sure to check out Anthropologie;this is one of our favourites.

The second, and perhaps most memorable lesson Blair taught, is that tights are not pants. Never forget it.

What made Blair’s style stand out above the rest was her bold and creative clashing of patterns and block colour. She proved that a little confidence can go a long way and that one should never shy away from pairing bright colours and prints together for an outfit that will truly turn heads whilst remaining elegant, sophisticated and not too over-the-top. The many balls, parties, and dinners that she attended demanded only the most elegant, timeless, and glamorous of gowns - Blair never failed to over-achieve here. There are so many to pick from but perhaps one of the most iconic is the striking red Oscar de la Renta dress she wore in Paris, early in the fourth season of Gossip Girl. Teamed with a bright pink clutch, she showed that clashing block colour can be a strong but graceful look, even for evening wear.

Blair also stayed true to her fashion individuality with her stunning pale blue wedding dress and tiara-esque headband, once again setting the fashion trends rather than following them.

Take a look at our top 5 Blair looks:
